The Scriobhlann or Writing Room is a little project for the 21st Century to bring back into use the original dwelling on the site.
Unlike the magnificent dressed stone of the old barn, where the cows lived in roomy splendour, the human inhabitants had a single roomed, rough stoned bothy dug into the hillside.
Only 5 by 3 metres with a earth floor and a single open fire, it cannot have been a very comfortable dwelling. Now it has a double-skinned and insulated wall of concrete blocks and stone, reclaimed from the old gable which collapsed a few years ago.
Drylined and equipped with modern double-glazed French windows, the Writing Room will be an overflow for the main house bookshelves and a private place to sit, read and, perhaps, to write. With a day bed and a self-contained WC, it can double as a spare bedroom.
Regrettably, Scriobhlann will not be available for renting.
